Attend the City Council Meeting and tell the City to reject this project. Any member of the public can fill out a speaker card and speak for up to three minutes. The City Council will hear the item and vote on the September 5th, 2024 at 6pm at the Jurupa Valley City Hall, 8930 Limonite Ave, Jurupa Valley, CA 92509. View the most recent agenda Here.
Tell the Jurupa Valley City Council to Reject this Rio Vista and go back to the drawing board and demand that the land immediately surrounding the Jurupa Oak be preserved in its natural context. The most recently recommended buffer distance of 450 feet is arbitrary and far from adequate for the Earth's oldest oak.

Dear City Council,
I am opposed to the Rio Visita Specific Plan and in favor of a land use plan the protects and respects the oldest living oak on the Earth. Building "light industrial" and "business park" at the base of the hill from which the Oak looks out over the undeveloped landscape is unethical and will be a decision the people will look back on and question for all time. We should do our best to protect and cherish this being not strand it amongst a sea of development. Please vote against approval of this project.

Dear City Council,
Please reject the Rio Vista Specific Plan. Environmental studies on impacts to the Oak have not been thoroughly studied and the safest option to ensure the Oak's survival for all time would be to designate as large of a buffer distance between the Oak and large scale development as possible. 450 feet is not nearly enough. The Oak's root system and water source(s) are not well understood, nor is the effect of the changes in microclimate that will result from replacing the surrounding natural landscape with concrete and asphalt. Without a sound scientific understanding of the impacts, Rio Vista could be a death sentence for the Jurupa Oak. You need to be certain that the potential impacts are mitigated for before approving a project that has worldwide implications.
